Climbing Up A Hill to Go Down Into a Cave
Here is my one monkey story about the Temple. Notice the macaque monkey near the pole/extended umbrella handle. He is sitting on the left side of the steps, looking up. This monkey would not let us climb up. Repeatedly, if we took two steps up from the bottom, the monkey scampered to the middle of the steps. He stared us down, bared his fangs, and screamed loudly with the nastiest face. We stepped down and the monkey went back by the umbrella. We took two steps up and the monkey scampered to the middle ….
We had to negotiate with the monkey to ascend. It took a lot of back-and-forth — not an auspicious beginning. Just in case: No, I am not kidding. The monkey is not a statue. The stupid monkey would not let up up the stairs.
